Lietuvos vyrų krepšinio rinktinė Europos čempionatą pradėjo įspūdingai – pirmosiose rungtynėse lietuviai sutriuškino Didžiosios Britanijos komandą ir pagerino visų laikų atkovotų kamuolių rekordą.
Antrojoje B grupės dvikovoje Rimo Kurtinaičio ir Tomo Pačėso treniruojami krepšininkai dar kartą įsirašė į istorijos puslapius. Lietuva 94:67 nepaliko vilčių Juodkalnijos rinktinei ir pasiekė antrąją pergalę čempionate.
Šis mačas tapo ypatingas, nes lietuviai pagerino dar vieną visų laikų rekordą – rezultatyvių perdavimų kategorijoje. Mūsiškiai išdalijo net 35 rezultatyvius perdavimus. Iki šiol rekordas priklausė Jugoslavijos komandai, kuri 2001 metais atliko 33 rezultatyvius perdavimus.
Tokie pasiekimai rodo ne tik aukštą individualų žaidėjų meistriškumą, bet ir darnų komandinį žaidimą, kurį išnaudoja trenerių duetas Kurtinaitis–Pačėsas. Lietuviai kol kas demonstruoja vieną įspūdingiausių čempionato startų, o jų žaidimas leidžia tikėtis dar daugiau istorinių pergalių.
